Hawaii's Fairmont Orchid resort unveils multimillion-dollar 'transformative' renovation

The Fairmont Orchid on Hawaii Island has completed the majority of a multimillion-dollar renovation project to refresh all 540 guest rooms and suites, the resort's private Gold Floor, and its meeting and events spaces.

The exact dollar figure of the project was not disclosed, but resort officials noted that it involved “extensive” work throughout the entire property.

Chris Sessions, director of sales and marketing at Fairmont Orchid, said the property renovation is “transformative” for the resort and “elevates every aspect of the guest experience.”

“This refresh is deeply inspired by the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Hawaii, and we’ve taken great care to infuse those elements into every detail,” Sessions said in an email to Pacific Business News.

Changes to the guest rooms and meeting spaces include new lighting, new furniture, refreshed carpeting, and updated design elements that the resort said are inspired by Hawaiian culture and the island’s landscape. Additionally, the Gold Floor — the sixth floor of the resort’s north tower that offers a private lounge and dedicated concierge service — has been completely redone.

The Fairmont Orchid launched the project in 2022, and Sessions said it is now in its final stages, with completion expected this fall when updates to the spa are finalized.

The Fairmont Orchid is located along 32 acres on Hawaii Island’s Kohala Coast, and according to PBN research, is the second-largest hotel on the island, as ranked by the number of rooms.

“The resort first opened its doors in 1990, and over the years, we've continuously updated the property to uphold its luxury standards,” Sessions said.

When asked why Fairmont Orchid chose to renovate these areas at this time, Sessions said that “we constantly strive to enhance the guest experience, and these areas were chosen for their importance in meeting the evolving needs of our guests.”

“Our Fairmont Gold floor, known for its elevated service and exclusivity, was refreshed to further elevate the luxury experience for our guests seeking the highest level of comfort and personalized attention,” he said. “Our indoor meeting spaces were updated to offer a modernized, flexible and inspiring environment for both corporate and social gatherings. Similarly, our property’s rooms and suites were thoughtfully re-designed to embody the spirit of Hawaii, blending luxury and sophistication with local cultural elements, ensuring a stylish and comfortable experience for those seeking an exceptional stay.”
